The 6th American Print Biennial, organized by the University of Richmond Museums, is a celebration of contemporary printmaking by artists from throughout the United States. The juror, Marjorie B. Cohn, Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints, Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, selected forty-three artists from twenty-two states from entries submitted by 115 artists. The exhibition includes a wide variety of print media including intaglio, lithography, photography, and digital printmaking.
In her juror’s statement, Marjorie Cohn states, “A print show such as this, which has solicited entries nationwide, is bound to provide an education, because contemporary American printmakers are working with the widest imaginable range of styles, techniques, and subjects. I have chosen the prints on view because they seem to me to be good art, whether made with tools as basic as those used in the fifteenth century or concocted electronically and printed by a machine unimaginable even a generation ago.”
She concludes, “I invite you to look at each print and consider not only whether I chose wisely but also what standards I applied. That’s the fun of original art: it provides a new experience every time you look anew.”
